Where We Fish

We fish the inshore waters from the New River, south all the way to the Cape Fear River mouth. Our time will be spent in the river mouths, creeks and bay systems. Where we fish depends on the season, tides and weather forecast. We use several different public ramps and we try to tailor each trip around the weather and tides to create the best opportunities for the angler’s that day.

The changing seasons bring an enjoyable amount of variation in how we target our red drum fishery. In winter and early spring, redfish school up tightly, and the water becomes crystal clear—perfect conditions for exciting sight fishing. As spring arrives with the pollen; bait and shrimp move in, schooling fish break up, and the fish start searching and feeding more actively.

As spring transitions into summer, redfish can be seen belly crawling along the banks on low tide and tailing in the spartina grass on flood tides in search of food. Early mornings become ideal for throwing topwater plugs and gurglers. Then, as summer gives way to fall, cooler temperatures fire up the fish. The marsh is filled with life, the mullet run is in full swing and fish are putting on the pounds. As water temps fall, bait clears out, water clears up, and fish start to school up and the cycle repeats!
