SIGHT FISHING THE CAPE FEAR COAST — FLY AND LIGHT TACKLE
We fish an Edisto Boatworks technical poling skiff. We use this boat for exactly what it was designed to do, find the fish skinny. This is a shallow water sight fishing operation. We will not be anchored up, pinning mullet to the bottom. There will be no live bait or live well on board. We are constantly on the move, whether it's poling around the shallows or running in-between spots. Sight fishing isn’t the easiest way to catch a fish, and we often work hard for our fish but for shallow water enthusiasts, the reward is incomparable.
Our focus year-round is red drum. We will still have shots at flounder busting on bait during the negative low’s; the occasional laid up trout way back in a creek hole or find sheepshead and black drum tailing on a flood tide. However, red drum are the main event! To be successful in this style of fishing accuracy is important.
